Is Online Payment Safe?

Online payments can be a confusing topic for many people. With all the recent security breaches and hacking, it is important to know that paying online is safe. The secure payment industry has been developing new technologies to protect consumers from fraud.

BlueSnap has shares some steps you should take when making an online purchase:

Look for a https:// at the beginning of the address bar (if not already there), this will let you know that the website is secure. If a site does not have an SSL certificate, then do not make your purchase there! Check for the lock symbol in your browser to let you know it’s safe – some browsers display this as a green padlock icon and others show a closed lock with two open keys. If you’re still unsure, contact the website before making a purchase.

Make sure your computer has up-to-date antivirus software, this will protect you from malware and other viruses. If your antivirus does not have an online protection service, then make sure you update it regularly!

Keep a backup of all important files in case something happens to the computer or its contents. This includes any passwords for bank accounts, social media sites, email etcetera.

Never open emails from people that are unknown to you – even if they claim to be someone you know! Report suspicious messages as spam by clicking “report” on Gmail or “block sender” on Outlook.com

Never give out personal information such as social security number or credit card numbers over email or phone lines.

The safest way to pay online is by using a credit or debit card. When you buy with a credit card, the information on your statement will say “verified”. If you’re still not sure about making an online purchase, contact the company and ask them if it’s safe before proceeding

Do not download any software from unknown sources for protection purposes – this can lead to more viruses! Always go through official channels when downloading anything onto your computer.

You may also want to consider installing additional security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software etcetera so that all of your data stays secure at all times. You should also use strong passwords in order to keep hackers out of your accounts too!
